it honestly makes everything they've done before it seem safe in comparison.

Not what I wanted from the band at all, but I’m so glad it is what it is

"that’s literally not even close to what this is but go off king"
Fair enough to say as I haven't heard this particular album and some comments here/other places are probably going to make me give it a try at least out of curiousity, but that is definitely everything they've produced since WtF.
City of Evil and Nightmare had some passable songs on it but utterly ruined by trying to listen to that guys absolute shit clean singing. I can't imagine anyone sounding more like they're pushing every bit of sound through their nose while also taking a shit.

@Shape: the guy from Can't Swim on their last album sounds exponentially worse lol

You could list any number of singers that are worse and be correct and it won't change or lessen the validity of my opinion.
Even on WtF like he's a bit nasally but there are absolutely brilliant vocal performances and it's easier to take w/ a grain of salt. Going from something like I Won't See You Tonight 1/2 to him just whining his way through Bat Country or Beast and the Harlot even on the very next album so fuckin painful.
I know he had to have surgery and idk how much that plays into it because those dudes are always deny surgery effecting their vocal performance but there's a pretty massive dip in quality pretty immediately.

with city of evil in particular they just decided they thought pantomiming Axl Rose was a good idea.
Nightmare's got some actually great vocal performances though, better than some of the ones here. "Tonight the World Dies" coming to mind.

ya none of those complaints apply to Nightmare. Probably his best vocal performance imo.

Waking the Fallen, the s/t, and Hail to the King have his best vox imo. Not sure what the hell happened with the vocals on City of Evil, lol

man that record would be so much better if it had Matt’s vocals from any of the next three records
I like it but it gets grating after an hour+

No joke, that's the only reason I haven't raised my rating for CoE from 4.5 up to a 5, lol

Every single M Shadows performance is still better than actual Axl Rose, at least.
Also y'all gonna make me do a serious objective re-listen of Nightmare in 2023 and I'm gonna be really fuckin mad when I like it.

Funny that you say that, because I'm actually jamming it right now as we speak. Currently on Buried Alive :]

Yeah but this is real life A7X fans that feel that way!

This is really very solid considering how much musical ground and new territory they just throw themselves into here. I can see this being considered one of their best in time, definitely the most interesting record they've made from a musical standpoint.
