I think that partially comes from the skyrocket in their popularity and the whole cringy "worship" thing... Anyone who gets that much fame so fast is going to have a proportionally larger amount of haters.
I'm more just disappointed. I can hear good things in there and in Sundowning but it's just not aligning itself for me.

I discovered them with Sundowning and it was very much a "uhhhh do I like this?" album that somehow kept me coming back until I was lie "uhhhh I think I really like this"

It's genuinely impressive how bands like this can chug their way through a whole album with 0 riffs. But just because they happen to have soft segments between the exhausting chugging they're "dynamic" and "progressive". Remarkably uncreative.
And yeah this really sounded like Imagine Dragons at spots.

I genuinely believe if they chose between softer or heavier, it'd be better. Somehow trying to do both makes it worse.

There are parts of this I'm enjoying, and his voice is actually quite pleasant when he's not over-embellishing it. Problem being he loves to over-embellish it.
Reserving judgement until album is over though, I'm giving it a chance.

Songwriting is definitely lacking, not nearly enough variety. Riffs are dead, etc.

There's a lot of riffs on the album.

his over-singing is toned down in this one surprisingly. i really couldn't get into the last two albums because they were super boring and the singer basically jerked himself off every song

"A band that goes above and beyond simply writing and playing music, Sleep Token are said to be "the mortal representatives of the ancient deity known only as 'Sleep', led by the masked and cloaked figure appointed 'Vessel' ... the master creator behind the music."[59] In the band's only reported interview to date, with Metal Hammer at the time of their signing with Basick, frontman Vessel expanded on the lore of the band, stating that "We are here to serve Sleep and project His message." When asked about Sleep, he stated that "He is everywhere, at all times. Vessel encountered Sleep in a dream, with promise of glory and magnificence if Vessel followed Him."
Bumped my rating down just for that quote
