I've been going through their discog again and I gotta agree Tundra. I think Acheron and Progenitor was their strongest for me. I could listen to Ode all the time and never get sick of it.
Their last four albums, while not bad, just don't hit the same and feel a little lackluster.

It sounds both dated and ahead of its time, which is pretty remarquable.

so my perspective on Mechina is finally starting to shift a bit, the 3 most recent albums feel like a melodic meshuggah, repetitive almost to a mindnumbing degree, but I love the repetition. A big thing in these albums is the guitar is audible and hits hard (unlike on Telesterion), which is what is really needed to make things work on any type of level.

They really need to take the time to improve their songwriting craft as well as their production value

all of these songs really overstay their welcome, literally if every song was half the length they'd be better off

Never thought I'd say this again, but Mechina have released a new song that I think is BRILLIANT. Blessed Upon The Fields... man what a journey that song is, fantastic songwriting, excellent dynamics, the middle portion of the song was gorgeous. This is the first song in years where I could say it could go toe to toe with Cryoshock.

I'm hoping that's not the new album art lol yeah, song rips though. Maybe a tad bit too long but I like how they let so many sections breathe before it goes back into the heaviness. I counted atleast 4 sections that repeat throughout the song, which leads me to believe that most parts have a memorable hooky quality to them. I've already got many sections stuck in my head.

Probably all you need of the last 2-4 albums is one or two that kicks yer fancy. Seige and Venator do it for me. Cenotaph seems like a bridge too far or something? But if I'd heard Ceno before Vena, not sure it'd make a difference?
What would make a difference? Hookier, more memorable vocal melodies hooked into and counterbalancing that hugely satisfying guitar riff crunch.

@trickert, What would make it better? I can't really say, but if you heard the EP they released a few months back, they somehow managed it there. It's called "Blessings Upon The Field Where Blades Will Flood"

I'll check it out. One thing that would make it better would be more memorable melodies, that work better with the riffs. Most of their songs kinda run together for me. The one's the stand out either have a more distinctive riff or the the song is longer/proggier and has more distinct sections. But maybe that's just me. I will check out the EP!
