blackwater park is easily better if you ask me. and To Bid You Farewell alone makes me put this above other opeth albums because it is soooo gooood.
Damnation is incredilbe as well, one of the few slow albums I listen to.This Message Edited On 04.09.07

Morningrise is probably my 3/4th favourite Opeth album. Although its very self-indulgent at times and I think Mikhael's voice and growl both still hadn't developed to their full potential, it has some of Opeth's best riffs, both electric and acoustic, and a dreamy feeling that their other stuff doesn't have as much of. Plus it's probably the Opeth album on which the bass shines most, both due to the production and De Farfalla's skill.

the bass is awesome here. You can here some awesome flea-style slap bassing in the outro of nectar.

The bass is awesome in all Opeth songs, Such as most of what is on Ghost Reveries. I only have that and Deliverance. Idk if I should pick up anymore Opeth records. They actually start to bore me a little with their epic 11 minuters. None-the-less, they are good compositions.

I'm starting to love this again, after thinking it was boring for a few months, and im getting back into "Deliverance" also, and for some reason GR is growing off me a bit, MAYH as well. Currently, my favorite Opeth in order would be this:
Still Life
Blackwater Park
Morningrise
Deliverance
Orchid
Ghost Reveires
My Arms Your Hearse
Damnation
This is a really hard album to choose favorites, though I think my favoirtes are "To Bid YOu Farewell" and maybe "Advent." I used to love "Black Rose Immortal" but not quite as mcuh as before, i think TNATSW is my least favoite though. "Nectar" has an amazing outro, love that also.

Bad list TBH.
BW Park > My Arms > SL > Morningrise > Damnation > Deliverance > GR > Orchid

Listening to this and Orchid these days and so far so good.
One can definitely tell that this is one of their first works by the vocals which oddly enough are more high-pitched than on Orchid in some songs.
Standouts as of now are 'Advent', 'Nectar' and 'To Bid You Farewell'.
The songs have their moments but that techno bassline in Nectar is out of this world lol.

Easily my favourite Opeth album.
Though I think Still Life is actually better.
I shall be writing a review of this next week. Also....
How could you have highlights on this album!??!?!
Black Rose Immortal is one of the most perfect songs ever written.
Nectar is my favourite Opeth song.
Night And The Silent Water is a classic, one of their most emotional.

Have been frequently listening to this along loads of other music since i got it and it's still amazing.
Highlights as of now... Well all. One song that has particular impressed once again is 'Black Rose Immortal'; amazing piece of music.
And 'To Bid You Farwell' is just too good.

I can not believe the score 'Kage' gave this.
Insulting.
And as for Deliverance being more refined and mature...
What is wrong with you? Morningrise is a perfected sound, just because it doesn't comply with the level of production that you may be used to.
This is superior to Deliverance in so many ways it's just not comparable.

| |
Still Life > Morningrise = Blackwater Park > Orchid > Damnation > My Arms Your Hearse > Ghost Reveries > Deliverance
However, Morningrise is my favourite.
|
| |
Actually, Ghost reveries is about equal with My Arms Your Hearse.

I'd characterise this album as: "Amazing album! I rarely listen to it!" It's really superb when I pick it up and play it but I just can't get round to the long songs sometimes.

Masterpiece of music art express with modern tools...sublime album

Yeah, this was the first Opeth album that really grabbed a hold of me. I listened to nothing else for perhaps 2-3 months, and everytime I put it back on it's as superb as ever.

I looooooooooooooove this album. Good review.
