Their The Most Hated EP is a much better execution of hip hop fusion than this. Polyphia are obviously virtuosos but god damn their music is way too busy.

yeah halfway through this very much feels like the most hated stretched to album length and a bunch of features (and therefore a bit watered down by comparison)
ABC is a straight banger tho

Great musicians but their music sucks [2]

I only listened to Polyphia when Lost In Vegas reacted to them, but i checked the Chino song and it is quite delicious

Holy crap, you know how sometimes you'll be watching something on YouTube for ages and then realize one day there's been a gaping hole where that content used to be? I used to watch lose Lost in Vegas guys a ton and then haven't seen a peep in a couple years so I must have unsubbed accidentally. The novelty of seeing them discover metal might have worn off as they became more familiar but I'll have to check them out again, I like them.
And yeah, I guess I'll give a few tracks here a shot.

At this point LIV are at least somewhat knowledgable in terms of Metal, you can tell by the comparisions they make etc. They seem like great guys to hangout with

Damn, I thought this was pretty great. The rapper guest spots, while not perfect, are some nice variety in their overall catalong. I thought that Lil West and $not did pretty admirably, didn't like the third rap guest though. I think Polyphia remain at the top of the game here

This is really bland and I loved their last one. Nothing stood out but Ego Death

That $NOT feature is not good. I’ll be happy when the trend of lifeless monotone trap delivery is over (aka I’ll never be happy).
Half the tracks on this are indecipherable from one another. Just furious picking. Ego Death the only standout track. ABC would have been a fun one-off single but is really weird slapped in the middle of this album.
There’s no doubt it’s a Polyphia album though.

I think the issue I have with Polyphia (specifically on this album but also on others stuff they’ve done) is they don’t let the music breath. It’s just relentless and wears me out after a while. It’s like they NEED to fill airtime with as much shit as possible.

honestly i didn't find the rap features anywhere near as bad as the review made them out to be
only one really sucked imo was killstation on "memento mori"
but yeah overall def a step down from NLND/the most hated as a whole

Yeeeaaaahhhhh not into this. Tiktok guitarist core is the perfect summary for it.

"Steve Vai’s playing look like amateur hour"
I remember buying a Steve Vai album before, and being so disappointed by how cheesy the music was. The same was true for a lot of virtuoso's albums I heard. Players, but not composers, I guess.

Arch Echo is a virtuoso prog band that scratches the composer itch for me. Incredible musicianship and their writing sounds purposeful.
