Only jammed this once, but seeing that it has a higher avg rating than Tales from the Twilight World is weird. It's a really good album, actually better than I expected, but I hope I enjoy it more with subsequent listens.

Well written review, pos, though I humbly disagree with some arguments presented therein.
For example:
-- The production (always a controversial point with some fans with every new BG album) also feels more organic, less sterile, giving the instruments the right punch.
To my ears, the production here is the epitome of "digital" and "compressed", it's so "quiet" that when I ramp up the volume, the band does not come closer to me in proportion, instead the signal-to-noise ratio is decreased. What's more, instruments and vocals feel mutually "entrenched", which in turn makes the arrangements feel less organic.
I listen to this and then Somewhere Far Beyond, one of its starting points, and the former always feels inferior to the latter.

I think the production is fine but it lacks the character of older albums. That said it also lacks the bloat of more recent albums, so overall I don't mind it.

The problem with major metal bands lately, is that they fail to coat their music with live sound, even if they tap producers that know the way to do it.
The latest Kreator album makes a fine example.

The cover shocked me because I could have sworn that I saw it on deviantart 15 years ago. Turns out that it was posted 7 years ago and just has nearly the same color palette as a picture by the same artist from 15+ years ago.
It's a cool picture. I would have swiped a William Blake painting or something though. Anyway, good review, your background summary of the band was spot on. Pos'd.

Wow, this album is glorious.
Great review too, summarizes the challenge and triumph of this album very well.

So this really impressed me but I’ve never heard this band before.
Kicking myself because I know for a fact 17 year old me (obsessed with Maiden and Judas Priest) would’ve been all over it. What albums should I check out from here?

A Twist in the Myth and At the Edge of Time are pretty underappreciated.
especially Twist is a fantastic album of straight up bangers front to back.
