Ending of Polka Dot Dobbins is rad, but overall this is just kinda going in one ear and out the other on first listen. I still like Synergy, and Holy Ghost Spirit is good too

OG acceptance speech layered Tilian vocals were way worse than this, Matt Malpass made him sound like a computer.

Band has felt like a production line churning out mid product for years now. Swan records in general. Soulless
|

They could have easily cut like 5 of these songs at least
Lotta fun stuff on here regardless. Mess sounds insane on For the Jeers

That's where I'm landing. It's been 3-4 records now where instead of having a good time I just feel jaded and disinterested, and at worst, cringing at what they've become. The band is talented as hell. Can you imagine how fun they could sound without Tillian and Jon? Serious vocals, non-frivolous lyrics?

Fwiw the bass is pretty cool on this.

back half is more interesting, but i think the run from synergy to embers (and i guess the beginning mess part in pop off) is the most consistent run these guys have had in a while.
Holy Ghost Spirit sounds like it could fit on Acceptance Speech through Mothership tbh. For The Jeers is the catchiest fucking song these guys have had in forever. and idk, Embers is just good lol. wasn't feeling it at first but i've enjoyed it every time since. and Synergy still slaps

Jon's verse about allergies in Ember is definitely a high spot for me lol

Long Nights In Jail to the end all have some things I thoroughly enjoy but each song seems to have something i think should've happened differently.
Current Events is almost the exception and possibly my favorite here but it ends a bit abruptly. and im still meh about andrew's part on Swallowed By Eternity, the otherwise highlight of the album

i legit can't get over how much i really like the verses in Long Nights In Jail and Back on Deck. the choruses aren't bad, they're solid but they're just obviously not as good/more by the numbers to tracks that could've felt more interesting

Two Secret Weapons is a stinker for sure.

“It’ll be like that until they get rid of the god damn neg button”
Imagine there’s no neg button, it’s easy if you try
I know neg’s don’t mean much cos it’s usually nothing to do with the quality of the writing it’s the difference of opinion, or at least that’s what I’ve seen, but this time it’s kind of getting to me. Probably because of shit going on right now in my life, I’m overthinking everything. Idk, I just wish people would tell me why they think my review sucks instead of giving me a big old thumbs down and disappearing. I’m not a great writer by any means but I want to improve my writing, and I can’t do that with anonymous negs
Also snake is right on the money about these guys being goofy goober rock

I'm so goddamn torn on this record. Like, the instrumentals are great and Will and Andrew's chemistry on the guitars are there; Matt kills it, Tim kills it. It does however feel like Jon Mess is pulling a shtick that I outgrew years ago and Tilian sounds like he just showed up and regurgitated the same melodies he's always done. I'd probably appreciate it more had they not released like 200 songs already over the past five years.

this had 4ish songs I really liked but wow DGD should never write 18-track albums
Cream of the Crop, Die Another Day, Pray to God for Your Mother and One Man's Cringe I liked on first listen, but I cannot imagine sitting through this full album again
"Two Secret Weapons is a stinker for sure." [2] easily the worst song here

that band basically exists and it's A Lot Like Birds' 2nd and 3rd albums
