He even threw in a vintage freak-out moment

Instrumentally this does seem kind of whatever, but the man has some damn fine pipes on him for sure

Lot more nuance to the arrangements than I think y'all give it credit for. This could've been a lot more self-indulgent, but I never get the sense that it is.

The drumming in particular is surprisingly dynamic behind the scenes.

He should've named this project after something else. I feel like I'm totally being unfair. I can agree this is great.

Honestly one of the strengths here is that Greg is willing to disappear into tracks, particularly ones as reserved as "We." The focus is on the overall atmosphere and how his voice can compliment it.

Beyond that, he's not really making any obnoxious singing choices or doing some crazy vocal acrobatics.

I know the guy has a reputation and a lot of ties to metal, but if he's looking to do something outside of that, so be it. I'd rather him explore new ground than do what other solo projects do and just redo glory days.

Kurt Travis is another great example of a dude going solo, doing something unexpected, and pulling it off not just on vocal talent, but good arrangements.

totally agreed, but but but I 4d Soldier, I think its explorative and edgy and I like it. I don't think he's trying to be tDEP there. I like the NINlike abrasiveness and noise industrial experimentation there, along with his poppy ID. I was all for that.

That's fair. He leans more into alt. metal and grunge here, with the tradeoff being flow and consistency. I think the arrangements absolutely still hold up though.

There's actually a video out there of Chris doing a drum playthrough of "Lowered," it's pretty neat.

"Any synthpop tunes like those from The Black Queen?"

We is the closest to sounding like The Black Queen.

This would be disappointing if it was Dillinger 2.0 or Black Queen 2.0

I'm happy with this tbh
