Good review, but "..the band’s newest export does branch out from too familiar portraits." reads very oddly. Otherwise excellent work. I think I'll check this album out soon - I've always found Saor to be really enjoyable, especially Aura.

It could be the "I wrote this" blinders, but I think context-wise it more than gets the message across. I mean, I could've wrote something along the lines of: "it sets itself apart from more familiar sounds within the genre" but ctrl + f the whole of sput etc etc.

Not really a Saor fanboy, although I like every album to varying degrees, but have to say I'm really digging this one. I enjoyed it on first listen and it's been growing from there.

Yeah I'm digging this one more than the previous one, lots of new stuff, way less repetitive

oof, that's like calling The Hunter best Mastodon. like sure, they simplified things and the songs are shorter, but it's lost a lot of that epic, ambitious scope that made the journey thrilling in the first place. now it's a day hike full of baby-carriers and signs to the nearest parking lot.

that's like calling The Hunter best Mastodon [2] literally perfect take

(nitpick) the album before The Hunter was one of Mastodon's best and Saor's album before this was his worst up to this point

yeah, fair addendum. it's less jarring here, given Forgotten Paths. and I don't mean to rag on fans of The Hunter -- like, enjoy what you enjoy my dude -- but there's a parallel in terms of change in approach and target demographic (see: immediate, wide), I think.

Bout 2 jam ahrd. All of his other albums are easy 4.5's so I hope this doesn't disappoint.

Was so disappointed by this. It's good but that's all it is.
