Yeah I remember hearing about the EP back in 2012 but for some reason I never checked it out. I'm too obsessed with this at the moment to backtrack, but I will definitely have to hear that EP at some point.

i don't really think it was so inevitable. considering that EP (like i state in the review) was brought about mostly out of his not wanting to make it part of Grizzly Bear's catalogue. for the ten years that have passed in between he did not apparently have the ambition to go solo.

All the longer songs are amazing, I think the “I’ll Wait For Your Visit”-“Keeper and Kin” duo are my faves currently.

FYI Colton, the drummer on this record is also Chris Bear, the drummer of Grizzly Bear.

Yeah this has groan on me
For me I’m not sure it quite rivals ‘Yellow House’/‘Veckatimest’/‘Shields’ - this album proves Rossen is my favourite part of the GB lineup…while also proving I prefer the variety in approaches on GB albums even more
It’s almost a ‘too much of a good thing scenario’, I’m not sure variety of atmosphere is this albums strength

The Grizzly Bear group are great. Chris Bear is an excellent drummer for the band. Some of my favourite songs from them are accentuated by his performances.
Bassist Chris Taylor is also primary producer of the band.
Good band overall, and Rossen is a great musician. This is a very good record for me.

Colton we all know you actually knew who this was the whole time and just wanted to make a silly comment feigning ignorance.
Interestingly Doof I’ve previously been firmly in the “Droste >>> Rossen” camp but I might like this more than any Grizzly Bear. Perhaps I need to revisit those albums now…
Also, did anybody else know that Ed Droste left Grizzly Bear in 2020 and that the band is essentially defunct now?? Somehow I missed that. Kind of wild since they With that in mind this is possibly the closest thing to a new Grizzly Bear album that we may ever get.

I actually did not know that. That's a shame. They were a good group.

Monstrous review, I’m sure it’s great and will read later. Half way through the album and wow this really is something. This guy clearly studied up on his music theory lol. Lots to unpack here compositionally, haven’t even begun to pay attention to lyrics yet

Apparently Grizzly Bear haven’t officially broken up, but yeah Droste apparently left for personal reasons and is trying to become a therapist. Rossen in a recent interview didn’t want to totally claim that GB were done, but the fact that this is the album we have and not something billed as GB isn’t promising. It seems. Droste’s departure wasn’t really reported on much, which is weird. It did happen right around the Covid explosion so maybe it just fell through the cracks with all that.

i wish my theory education was anything more than positively primitive. i could only delve into the themes and lyrics interwoven into the sound. if only i had a musician's ear

"the fact that this is the album we have and not something billed as GB isn’t promising."
except that Rossen wanted to make this solo for personal reasons also. this would have been a Daniel Rossen album, even if all of GB were to participate in creation (many of them have to certain extent)
