Never got After Hours hype, this was more immediate for me without a doubt

"Is that how it is? Because that'd be interesting"
No. It is a bit more upbeat synth pop or disco, though it has its moments.

well I love disco so I'd be sold to that as well

yeah there’s definitely some disco, sounds a bit brash and over-produced for my liking… probably just not my thing I guess

Pos'd review. Only difference with my opinion is I actually prefer the synth pop/disco side of The Weeknd, so this album spoke to me a bit more. Great review.

Not as good as I thought it was gonna be

I have decided the cover art is cringe. Here here

Jim Carrey’s interludes plus the cover art and the general presentation of the album give me this Black Mirror pseudo-intellectual feel that’s just so off-putting.

cover art is fine

there is no significance, just lame
|

especially cuz the single art for Take my Breath was actually really cool https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/11/The_Weeknd_-_Take_My_Breath.png

Yeah that's sick. I like that.
Although, I don't mind the art they went with. Better than when he did the whole blood aesthetic or pretended he had excessive plastic surgery.

First Weeknd album I've really enjoyed (even if I've loved individual songs here and there). It just has this incredibly cohesive vision that lifts even the less immediate songs to a higher level. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Jim Carrey stuff really, really works. Less Than Zero is my favourite, and Take My Breath sounds majestic in context; the transition from the previous song is, well... breathtaking.

the album is a sequel to After Hours with referencing Afterlife and the album art. He's older and the blue colors are the opposite of the reds on After Hours.

Timbaland likens Dawn FM to Thriller. I don't understand how they're related.

the music is a little similar, but the Jim Carrey moments remind me of the intro to the title track on Thriller. definitely bringing you into this world.
Though I don't really listen to MJ, Thriller is still better by a mile even if I prefer The Weeknd.

Timbaland knows what's up. He has ears.
