I think she should only release 10-minute songs from now on. Swifties have no rush.

Is it just me or is the redone chorus on We Are Never Ever... really grating?

“ Maybe unpopular opinion, but I definitely prefer the original version of All Too Well.”

Yeah seriously, it’s the only reason I didn’t 5 this. The part where she belts YOU CALL ME UP AGAIN JUST TO BREAK ME LIKE A PROMISE has so much impact and passion behind it, but the new versions are meh and totally anticlimactic

Great review. I'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing, but I must say I was rather disappointed in the 10-minute version of All Too Well. I've read comments of people praising it saying that it sounds like a journal entry, but that's the problem. The art of music (or poetry, for that matter) isn't just about writing the thoughts in your head and setting it to repetitive music--OK, Bob Dylan can do that, but he's won a Nobel... he can get away with it--but it's about crafting the music in such a way that it enhances it. The 5-minute version of All Too Well does that masterfully, especially in how it deftly handles the slow dynamic build and the addition of instrumental and harmonic ideas. The 10-minute version just sits in the mood created by the intro and just stews and meanders and really doesn't go anywhere musically. Even lyrically I'd argue that it arguably does less with more, while the original feels like such expertly-written sketches of a relationship and breakup, with each scene being so indelible because of what is (and isn't) surrounding it.

Still, I won't let my disappointment about that color my appreciation of the re-recordings and new tracks. I haven't even heard the Fearless re-recordings in full yet, but of the tracks I have heard I've been rather ambivalent. It's obviously too much to expect them to be exactly the same, but I think most of the changes have been for the worst, if only because Swift's voice, and undoubtedly herself/personality, has changed since then and there are some songs with some sentiments I just don't think she really do any more with the same youthful conviction, but that's probably to be expected to an extent.
