I really want to love this but I don't love it
The non core elements are pretty cool, spoken word has an eerie atmo to it, but the actual metal stuff underneath seems kind of your bland, standard chugfest instead of feeding into the creepy oddity.
Nice rev Chef

I wouldn't consider it a can of worms at all!
Personally, I think there's nothing more interesting than an openly admitted bias. It helps us to calibrate and adjust for the differences in perceptions/etc between people. I'd be willing to bet your relationship to what someone else might consider run-of-the-mill nu-metal is just that: a relationship. It's that very interaction between yourself and what you like that defines and ultimately gives value to the experience, right?
As far as calling a genre dead, I think it's pretty damned low on the totem pole of simplifications to lean on, especially while attempting to get a point across.
And yeah, I think the way both KsE has changed, as you mentioned, over the years in addition your own preferences would be the key there? If it was a band like August Burns Red for example, who I feel like mostly had their core sound dialed in right away and have more or less been riffing on it to a lot of folks' delight, would better illustrate what I was trying to get across? I'm not sure really, just food for thought I guess.

Those two things are not mutually exclusive, hehehe.
The production to me is very evocative of mid 00's grindcore, which this is not, so I can't quite say why it reminds me of that...
