Can we finally sit down and admit the Offspring wasn't really a very good band ever?
They had like 2 good albums, one great album, and one great single.
|
| |
they’re like 90% of 90’s bands. They made good shit then the creative well ran dry around the turn of the century and now they kinda suck

funny thing is, that, having had followed The Offspring since Americana first came out, once I was past my mid-teen years, I was tempted to make the exact same evaluation as you two guys (wildcard and Caliggy) because that's usually a time period where one is supposed to "mature" and abandon youthful interests and hobbies.
Well, the thing is, I did find myself going back to their first 6 (s/t up to and including Conspiracy) occasionally much later on in life, and now I am convinced that it's one of these bands that do stand the test of time, i.e. they weren't just a "one-time right place, right time" type of phenomenon.
Of course, it also has to be acknowledged that everything they put out after Conspiracy has sucked hardcore.

We waited 9 years for this.
|

Yeah The Offspring dropped off like a bag of bricks man
Rise and Fall had some good songs but otherwise they kind of got lost in their own age imo
|
| |
it's like waiting 9 years to see a deadbeat parent you know is gonna disappoint you yet you still agree to meet them at hooters anyways

Bob Rock is a solid producer, the fault lies squarely with the band. This is almost as bad as their previous output, so I'm more inclined to fault them rather than a producer who got saddled with this job at the last minute.

It's pretty fucking average yeah but I struggle to really "hate" this album. More or less it just bores me.
|

Stop trying to hate it then. heh

I think you’re a cool dude cali but you’re well off the mark with this. Rock is the one who recorded and mixed this abomination. You can only blame the band for writing average songs and authorising the awful state it’s in. Honestly, I don’t get why people use Rock as a producer.

Call Bob if you want YOUR album to ROCK today!!!!

Because he has a consistent history of recording good albums
Motley Crue, Dr. Feelgood
David Lee Roth, A Little Ain't Enough
Metallica, Black Album
Metallica, Load
Metallica, St. Anger (Production wise was great and he played good bass)
Bon Jovi, Keep the Faith
Tal Bachman, S/T
Pretty much 80% of The Cult's Discog
Black Veil Brides, BVB IV (Production is fine)
Heck he even produced Rise and Fall, one of the few actually good Offspring albums.
The guy has a consistency with the stuff he helps make. Except with fucking Offspring who frankly I just don't trust to make good albums amazing producer or not.
Perhaps Bob Rock fucked up here, but I have trouble believing that when I see better results from Rock a lot of the time than I do Offspring.

"Metallica, St. Anger (Production wise was great and he played good bass)"
absolutely hell no lol.
i guess i find most of his work to sound very flat, motley crue albums being a prime example
regardless, he also produced days go by and the production on that had no issues from what i can remember. however, there's no getting past the fact it is a total botch job here and doesn't fall on the band but on the dude who actually mixed this turd
