I VERY MUCH miss those vocals Colton, definitely, Parade is my other fave song from them

Yeah this is very restrained by comparison but I'm okay with that. It's just a very wholesome life-affirming package. Stuff like the end of I don't want love is god-tier tho

I actually think Volunteer and Porchlight are kinda boring lol, otherwise I'd bump this to a 4.5

Yeah but he didn't lose his hearing, he adapted to the new normal. Sounds like it was a learning experience and there's something powerful about overcoming such adversity and continuing to pursue your passion. And I mean, that aside this album strikes me as decidedly less depressive than their other stuff lol

Agreed on Familiars being their best album. It has "Parade."

After listen 4 I'm thinking there's not quite enough going on to raise my rating above a 3.5 - it's very pleasant but some of it just becomes sonic wallpaper

Stubborn Man and Volunteer deserve more love. The latter of those is mesmerizing.

I think the big problem with this album for me is I only really need Solstice/Stubborn Man/It is What it Is/Volunteer/Green to Gold

Everything else it the same great style but nothing adds to what those tracks have perfected

i like the idea of this being a new beginning for them - a stepping stone into a different, less bleak sound

good stuff

It's like half 'Familiars', half something like Rhye

'Stubborn Man' is one of the best, 3rd or 4th at least - when people are saying this is missing perfect vocal moments I feel this is the one that bucks that, in a slightly more understated fashion

'Just One Sec' I find really generic and plinky plonk, one of their least exciting songs ever
