Thanks Phero! I chuckled when I got to your line at the end of the review saying this album was guaranteed to be good because of the title, because I had been thinking the same thing

This album makes me feel like I'm outside on a cold and starry night, laying on a blanket alone with my thoughts to ponder love & life. So much about this is perfect: the callback melodies between Into Love/Stars and Into Love Again; the entire second half of Into Love/Stars; the screeching guitars on Exit Strategy to prevent things from becoming too lush for their own good; Where You Find Me for being basically the best 90s indie track never written in the 90s; the flawless transition between Where You Find Me and Ship; the frenetic energy and insanely infectious verses on Ship; the second half that Loose Ends builds to; the ambient six minute cool breeze that is Ice Age; the hip-hop energy of Oh Sweet Fire; Ghost and Stars for being two of the cutest little one minute songs; the way the closer does nothing but build the entire duration of its five minutes while recalling the opening melody of the album to bring it all full circle. I did not think this was a borderline classic when I first played it, but here we are mere days later, and I'm thinking the 5 might stick.

Having this and Leon III come out in the same week is unfair. I don't have enough time to listen to both of them daily.
Really appreciate this review though Pheromone, never would have bothered with this otherwise.

gyro appeal to your inner romantic
there's something special about this
or maybe I just didn't listen to enough 90s indie rock in my youth and now I'm overcompensating

Won't save you from falling into loveāagain

I like this I'm just not blown away by it after 1 listen. Also the end of exit strategy is so damn annoying like holy shit

yeah it's a damn good year so far

finding it a little quiet so far, hoping it picks up a bit
the only album that has really surprised me so far is the Arab Strap
|
| |
I like into the ice age and oh sweet fire after 1 pass but found most of the rest to be kind of dull and even grating at times. Will listen again tho.
Honestly feeling the same way about that arab strap album doof. The opener is incredible and then most of the rest fails to do much for me after one spin. I'm assuming these are growers tho. So far of all the big releases lately leon iii and royal albert hall have been the most immediate

this is certainly a grower, but it's not a BIG album as it were - if you're hopimg for it to pick up, it remainds at a fairly stable n dreamy level
despite the second-to-last track which is wild
|
| |
By big I just mean noteworthy, not like grandiose or anything. It's a slow burner but it's a popular enough band that I'd call it one of the bigger releases of 2021 so far

'The opener is incredible and then most of the rest fails to do much for me after one spin.'
A lot of it is lyrics driven so worth persevering with
