It'd probably take me a while to review Carnage too. Can't imagine how long it would take for me to find redeeming qualities to write about, let alone make a case for it being one of the best of the year so far

"no idea how it will work as a commute album"
Commuting with Nick Cave usually means a life changing depression once I get to the office but I feel masochistic enough to do it on a Friday.

i wish he'd get over this prolonged phase he's been in ever since the death of his son and get back to making music that isn't corny and cringey af. every time i see any of his last 3 albums being praised i feel like i've slipped into an alternate reality where overly mawkish garbage is praised. surely people love nightwish and dragonforce in this universe?

Awesome review Dewi! Sounds like there's a lot of variety with this album, and the Cocteau Twins and Bella Union namedrops have me even more curious to check this out
|
| |
Thanks man! Yeah I've said it on the previous page, but if you dig a fair amount of Bella Union artists this is basically a best of.
And damn Gyro, didn't know you hated post Skeleton Tree Nick so much, I actually got into his music with that album and loved everything he's done so far.
(I also like Nightwish lol)

once and oceanborn are still great but they've been consistently awful the last 15 years imo. and yeah everything nick cave has done after push the sky away has been total dogshit. it's prob the thing i feel most out of the loop on in terms of music. everyone has those albums they just don't get the acclaim for and i've never been more puzzled in my life than with the acclaim skeleton tree and ghosteen have attained. i think ghosteen is like the 6th highest rated album on metacritic and it's so spectacularly terrible that it's just hard for me to get my head around lol

It happens to me with a few classics, dw. Actually that reminds me that I've yet to submit myself through Spiderland this week for the uptenth time in an attempt to reach enlightenment.

Hey, if you're gonna try and reach enlightenment, I can certainly think of worse ways than listening to Spiderland
|
| |
Enlightenment meaning why everyone loves that album. I just don't get it, it bores me to tears.
|
| |
Idk I listen to it and it makes the good chemicals happen in the brain

Good Morning Captain for feel good song of the summer!
(Is that song about how Cap'n Crunch is an important part of a balanced breakfast?)

I miss you

I'll try, I'll try

I know how you feel though

Spiderland has probably the best dynamics of any rock album ever, and ngl I'm not usually one for candid consumer-blaming, but it's a lot easier to roll eyes at the capacity for empathy of anyone who'd write off the entirety of Cave's last 3 albums as corny and cringey than it is to fault his writing for it

i'm empathetic to a fault, but that has nothing to do with me thinking their songwriting is weak af now. it's insufferably cheesy, like i'm actually shocked that people on sputnik don't mock it, people usually pounce on rly corny overly grandiose crap like ghosteen. but idk that logic of yours just confuses me in general lol. like i'm supposed to feel sorry for him and thus think the albums are great?

Not sure why, but Nick Cave is an artist that I've never felt inclined to listen to. Maybe I should check out his classic albums and change that
