Really can't stop listening to this, and I'm a bit surprised it hasn't caught on here.

their last album was pretty big here
and it's a small notch above this, so maybe it's just diminishing returns on a good thing

Yeah, probably true. This is my first foray into the band, and it's absolutely hitting the spot, so I just want more people to dig it with me.

I can relate to that. I'm usually late to the party, so while I'm slapping a 5 on something and calling it life-changing everyone else is giving it a 3.5 and saying it's not as good as _____. Such is life, I guess.

After a couple listens, I like this. I want to love it. But so far I just like it. Definitely feeling the back half is where it’s at, just me?

Nah, it's not just you. Aside from The Shining But Tropical/Amalfi, this thing is back-loaded. And you're right...it's a "like" kind of album, not a "love". For me, anyway...

I think this album is fairly consistent throughout, but I'd actually argue the first half is a tad better than the second half. The track run from Bigger Than Christmas through Oversharers Anonymous really hits the spot for me, but maybe I just haven't fully connected with some of the second half tunes yet

That's a great run too. This is really consistent indeed. The only song I'm really not a fan of is the opener. Utterly forgettable.

Agreed on that. The opener sets a good vibe for the album, but on its own terms it's not a highlight by any stretch

Man Amalfi really is just fuckin wonderous

The Shining But Tropical wasn't even a particular highlight for me at first, but it's become one of the definitive songs of my 2021 listening. It just feels massive in a completely effortless way.

For those interested, the band released a live version of this album today, listening now and it's awesome so far (feels like they're leaning a little further towards country/folk with these renditions)

With the storm that was coming your way,
The plan was to float away,
Face down in the San Francisco Bay,
On a clear blue day
