“... the grotesque edge of that made their contortion of black metal so arresting ...”
Got a minor typo in there, should be “what”, not “that”.
I loved the debut, but “Mirror in Darkness” and “Endless Detainment” basically completely lost me. Two tracks in and I am totally loving this so far.

Oops! Actually the typo is an extra word, the "of" should be omitted. :^) Thanks for pointing that out, though - I had to re-read your comment three or four times before I could even understand what the problem was, apparently my brain has already omitted the "of" for me hahaha. Very nice catch.
Glad you're digging this so far. I definitely think if nothing else, this is the most cumulative representation of the band thus far. I can hear each of their previous LPs/EPs in here to some degree, but honed into a much sharper point.
Let us know how you feel when it's over!

Why would we warn you of things untrue?
This fucking ruled
Dense, harrowing, surprisingly melodic sometimes which was nice given the total absence of it in this style of black metal.
Gotta say tho Desertification could have been like, 5 minutes shorter .

Agreed. Very Warholian, too pretentiously conceptual for its own good. Honestly I think it was just a way of padding out the A-side to an album. Ultimately it's inconsequential because it's the final track and therefore doesn't disrupt the flow or anything. It'd have been cool if the vinyl release included a locked groove that actually played the phrase indefinitely. But to my knowledge, it does not, which makes the 9-minute run time kind of silly.

Also I am not sure how many people know the Mulholland Drive reference in the first paragraph; it's a fairly canonical film in the cineaste realm, but I never know exactly how well those types of movies translate to crowd of people who aren't as movie obsessed. So if that visual is lost on anybody, I apologize. Hopefully the verbalization creates a decent-enough picture, though.

Great movie, plus you depicted the scene vividly.
