Glimmer might be my early highlight. Consistent album overall. Fearless hasn't clicked just yet.
Great review, pos'd.

"'Is Sludge/Folk a thing yet?'"
that would neatly fit somewhere under the Neofolk umbrella, perhaps within the general confines of "Dark Folk" or "Doom Folk" me thinks. Shit like Chelsea Wolfe's 'The Grime and the Glow".

This is like the EP, but better

I don't think this is anything like Chelsea Wolfe, even less similar to her early stuff which was all lo-fi and gritty. This is actually quite grandiose and it sounds pretty... epic? Feels more similar to Anna Von Hausswolff if anything.
But I insist, doom Sarah Brightman I think is on point.

''This is actually quite grandiose and it sounds pretty... epic?''
Hence my WT comparison. It is vert grandiose and epic indeed. Bombastic almost.

I'm not getting "grandiose" from this at all. All the songs have their rises but it never feels larger than life or anything. It's not exactly restrained, but it always feels like it's sort of holding back a bit to me.
I'm still digging this a lot. The vibe of this just suits my life so well right now.

It's so funny how interpretations can differ so much. To me this almost sounded over the top sometimes!

The bit with the strings on Love and Pain might be a bit much, but other than that there aren't many points where I feel like the band is really rocking out or anything.
It's also her vocals. She always sound kinda tired, she never really belts it out even during the loudest parts. You can always kind of hear the depressing piano ballad behind all the other instrumentation.

wow, I've spinned this album twice or thrice, and I feel like there's really something here. Unlike Punisher, which felt a bit flat (same impression got from Alps), but maybe I'm just talking apples and oranges here. Anyway, this album has some amazing moments and the first half is excellent.

EP was boring
But her song with Mono was pretty cool so maybe I'll check this

If you didn't like the EP, you almost definitely won't like this either

okay thanks, a full-length of that style would be a struggle. The 'climaxes' just never really went anywhere or made me catch my breath in the slightest

I think the album has great moments, but most strengths are wasted on the first half. Second half lacks the element of surprise, while still having great moments, like Love and Pain.

This is pretty much the ultimate mood music for me right now. It's almost a dirge but I find it really engaging somehow. Doesn't feally matter what she does in a song, I still manage to vibe with it heaps.
Should probably take some time to learn which tracks are which

This grows on me every time I listen to it, really can't pick apart each song though, just flows together nicely

Yeah, it's happening more and more these days, that I don't care much about song titles as well.
