The first time I heard Fooling Yourself on the radio at a grocery store I thought he was singing:
"You're killing yourself
*KILLING YOURSELF*"
and I couldn't stop laughing.

Just listened to this again today and it still rules. Miss America is such a jam
My nostalgia for this band certainly helps of course. They were one of my favorite bands as a kid

This era of rock in general is often derided for how flashy and poppy it was, oriented more so to the 'stadium/arena' sound than something more artistically satisfying. The fact that Styx took a dramatic turn into that direction and DeYoung's ballad nonsense further soiled their reputation in the modern day, as it turned them into a joke that got passed on.
Really, compared to peers, they were putting out fairly engaging progressive rock that could balance dramatics with songwriting prowess. It's no surprise to me that the group found their footing again without DeYoung; their latest album is surprisingly excellent.
