True, but I've been saying something similar since the album came out and the only responses I saw before your review were "this sucks, last album better" and I don't see it

Yeah I don't get it personally. Neither are their best, but like you said, there's like 7 songs here I'd return to and maybe only 3-4 from the previous, although there's nothing there as egregious as Hold Up a Light or My Soul. I'd rather trudge through the lows for those rewarding highs than endure sustained mediocrity.

Our opinions on Palms and TBEITBN are basically inverses lol. FWIW I listened to TBEITBN so many times after writing my review that I actually bumped my score up lol.

The Deeper Wells EP is exactly the sort of Thrice I wanted post hiatus, and fingers crossed that is the stepping stone for which there future work is based off



The only song I really come back to on Palms though is Blood on Blood, other songs have there moments but lack a cohesive vision throughout, which coupled with the less than stellar songwriting, slightly bland production and the shift to a more radio friendly label leaves a bit of a sour taste. Deeper Wells thankfully recaptured that magic a little, so I'm not writing them off at all, and they're still excellent live
