Oh btw, the album is on the wrong order on Spotify (alphabetical on Spotify), and that bugged it me. It flows better in its original order, so I made a separate playlist just for it hah

Never thought I'd see a Mekaal Hasan Band review featured here! Great writeup and it's very cool that you got to connect with him. I went and found your quarantine list as well, great stuff that you shared there too. Ramzan Mubarak!

Hey dude! Thanks man, much appreciated. Ramadan mubarak to you as well btw. Haha I try to fly the Pakistani music flag as best I can here, and there's a decent number of people that enjoy it, as you probably saw on that list!
The quality of music is increasing in Pak; lots of young bands starting up and using high production quality. Takatak, Kashmir, Bayaan, and the experienced heads are also working on stuff. Mekaal, Khurram Waqas (Qayaas), Faraz Anwar (solo album coming). Asad Ahmed released his instrumental solo album, also pretty cool!
Haha I've taken a huge Pak music plunge recently

Were these guys among the many who performed on Coke Studio Pakistan over the years?

Never heard about these guys and possibly never would have if you didn't write this review. Sounds very interesting and gonna give it a try as I'm writing this. Thanks for the well-written review and grats on even getting into contact with the musicians themselves!

@Raylan Yessir! Performed Sayon and Kinarey from this album. Really wish they would have chosen one of the longer songs. Here's Sayon if you're interested (it has the former female vocalist on it)

@c3llar: Thanks man! Appreciate it. Glad you liked the review, hope you're enjoying the album. It requires some time to unfold. Yeah man it was very cool being able to talk so candidly. We're still in touch and he actually wants to send me more tracks to check out. Very cool!

This is why I love being on Sputnik. Finding unique bands, that I probably would've never heard about. Excellent review Omar!

Thanks Chaos :-). I love sharing this music, even if the audience is relatively limited.
Mekaal was surprised that people were still jamming his old stuff, I was like dawg is few fans of yours have got your back :-D

Nice bump Dimorphic! Glad you're enjoying it. Jamming again thanks to your bump. Any favourite tracks so far?
You might enjoy their Saptak album as well. It's a bit more mellow but groove oriented

Ok, so that time it worked. Basically my favourite tracks are Bheem, Sayon, Sindhi, and Ghungat, but only listened to the album a couple of times so subject to change. Thanks for the rec btw. Will check.

Been a bit inactive so I'm replying now. All great tracks Dimorphic ;-). Bheem is definitely still my favourite. Sindhi is such a great uptempo rocker and Sayon being the other end, mellow and warm

All of the flutes sound so good here. Love the multiple layers as well in places. Really hoping its even more integrated on the next release
Distorted guitar tones are also sumptuous

Goddammit Sayon is so chilled out and warm, love it. And Megh is so psychedelic and ominous.
I realised that I reviewed Saptak 7 years ago in April as well, purely coincidence
