Last para edited - revisited it and didn't like the way it came across, v fair criticism on that one. Sheer outpouring of hate for the band seems like standard anti-hype backlash though, which is again understandable, but this thing's hardly the worst record in it's subgenre even if this new wave of metalcore isn't your thing. New SYSC had much more of an identity problem, and inability to escape the trappings of 2004 myspace-isms, and more conventionally mainstream 'core bands' (if such a thing really exists) have put out some utter fucking duds of records, like that really overhyped Parkway Drive album. Still, ain't really a competition, and feels like Code's mission to piss off people is succeeding - can't deny the edgy persona is very extra.

Sulfur Surrounding is the worst song of the year, calling it now

I went into this record with low expectations post-lead single, but honestly, this was a grower. Liking it more over time. Just wish the lighter, more radio-friendly tracks weren't so dull. "Autumn and Carbine" is boring as all hell.

I only heard one of the singles but if that was any indication there is little to no improvement on the song writing front.
Truly terrible band

"Sheer outpouring of hate for the band seems like standard anti-hype backlash though, which is again understandable, but this thing's hardly the worst record in it's subgenre even if this new wave of metalcore isn't your thing" 2 well put.
Band sure ain t conventional...I laugh at the hate opinions and also laugh with the band.

I don't think it's really just the average anti-hype backlash. Sure, sputnik loves to hate on hyped music, but Code Orange seems to be REVERED everywhere else - and they don't really deserve the love they get.

Nobody know them here tbh...its so easy to bash the dudes on this site lol...do you guys honnestly think the songwriting is as it is because they don t know better? Common...for me they re just a cool band...not deserving of the hate, I don t see them being revered every where.
They re like 4 kids trapped inside a computer trying to play metal with a really bad connection...the songs look unfinished cause you haters are trying to erase them...I just know it...still they managed to make a point in a very unique way...congrats

So started listening to the rest of this because I hate myself. Some of the "experimental" nonsense the always mess with actually adds to the songs. Color me surprised. Most of it is still completely unmotivated.
I really hate the stupid shit where the audio cuts out for no reason once or twice on every single song so far.

well, it's 6 kids now since they added Dom on board with Forever and whoever's doing drums with this album since Jami has swapped roles to "frontman" now.

They've been talked about here for years, DDD. If you want proof that they're at least seriously talked about just go check out the metacritic for this album, or Kerrang!, or metalsucks.com, or the metalcore reddit, or anything melonhead fantano spits out about Code Orange, or the fact that they were invited to the Grammy's in 2018.
I don't think they're bad musicians, but the fact that they've had 4 tries and still haven't made a coherent album doesn't seem in fitting with all the hype elsewhere.

"do you guys honnestly think the songwriting is as it is because they don t know better?"
Yes.
Most musicians aren't that great of song writers, but it doesn't matter because most don't aspire to be. Comfortably sitting in niche of your genre isn't a bad thing but it is what most bands do. And staying in your comfort zone doesn't typically require amazing song writing ability. Unfortunately, Code Orange thinks they need to push the boundaries and they just aren't able to do it.
It would take really great song writers are able to pull of crazy stuff that these guys want to. They probably aren't awful, but they bite off way more than they can chew and the result is horrendous.

"Explained above you mate...your fault"
Have a stupid idea and throwing it in a bunch of songs isn't a good idea. It doesn't make it enjoyable just because there is some kind of thematic purpose, does it?

well, aside from the music I also think they are just not really sympathetic. Jami tends to some arrogant behaviour and goddammit all his fucking talking during songs in live shows is so annoying. just watch some live footage of "Forever". Less posing, more music. Cuz there are some songs in which they prove what amount of talent they've got

and if I read one more revolver magazine article mentioning their "blue collar origin" I will personally blow up Pittsburg

I really enjoyed Love is Love, but they've shifted their hardcore influences for some horrible hybrid of beatdown hardcore and nu metal.
Different strokes for different folks, but it sounds like the Roadrunner nu-metal bands that were circulating when I was growing up. Swallowing sounds like Slipknot and some of the electronics are tacky and poorly done. Believe me, it won't age well.

It's just not very interesting. They had a more unique and less trendy sound on Love is Love.
I listen to a lot of ambient and drone - the electronics are terrible.
