Facts. I honestly don't care if any vocalist sucks live as long as he/she sounds good in studio. Albums are mainly how we listen to artists anyway.

I honestly thought he was fine live. Screams sounded way better in alive environment. I think he doesn't sound that good in the studio, but I'm also too annoyed with the accent most times. The weak harsh vocals don't help imo

His accent isn't even that strong lol, and his harshes are far from weak imo

In my opinion they are. Really don't like his style. He has a nice singing voice but idk man, just not a fan of everything he does I guess. Too many backing vocals and all that shit, he just isn't that convincing

"Well Landmarks just tweeted that they're going to announce something in September, so hopefully this indirectly means that new Novelists music is coming."

Turns out the "big news" was that Landmavrks is touring France in 2021 lol.

Don't say you have a big announcement if all it is is a tour in your shit little country.

So Novelists deleted all tweets they made this year about writing / releasing new music, so that's nice.

Have to hard disagree here. I feel cheated when a vocalist sounds like shit live and an angel on record.
At an extreme, we could advocate the same for instrumental parts and suddenly a band would have other musicians play for them cause who cares if they suck live as long as they sound good on the album?

I actually preffer a shitty voice that is just as shitty live than being turned off by the change in quality.

I don't personally care about any of that. Most bands have touring musicians who aren't even a part of the band anyway.

By that argument a band should only record albums in the middle of gruelling tours while sleep deprived with a live venue sound system, while jumping around entertaining a paying audience, and should only ever get one shot at it.

Because the reverse of that argument is that the live performance is so irrelevant, why have bands at all? Just make every band a Milli Vanilli.

Let's just be reasonable and agree that it's perfectly normal to expect a band to have a similar performance live as they do on the record.

The reverse of that argument is actually to not let questions like "but how are we going to pull it off live" limit artistic creativity. Because if it did then we wouldn't have nice stuff like Bohemian Rhapsody.

I mean, sure you can compare it to Milli Vanilli if the only reason you're into a band's music is their ability to play really difficult shit flawlessly and not the actual quality of the music being made.

[edit] It's perfectly reasonable to expect a band to be competent and be able to play its stuff live, IF you're talking about judging them as a live band. The issue is with judging the band's studio output by their live performances.

I have more respect for bands that can sound exactly like their albums’ material into a live performance. But it’s not a big deal for me if they don’t, when making an album, bands want to make it sound as best as possible even if they can’t pull it off that well live. Can’t knock em for that.

Yeah, I definitely respect bands that pull their shit off live, but in all honesty at a metal show who's really going to care if you miss a few notes? Being able to engage an audience and bring energy to a performance is just as, if not more, important as playing everything flawlessly.

A "good" band being completely unable to translate their music to a stage is pretty rare in my experience. The only band I have issues with in this regard is Skyharbor because Eric Emery just seems to struggle mightily with Dan Tompkins melodies while not really compensating by being a good entertainer. I'd much rather take a band like Moon Tooth where even though the vocalist is far from perfect, he brings so much energy and power to the peformance that it doesn't matter.
