@ source
Yeah, it's a pity. Maybe you aren't a big jazz fan.
Thanks for the comment.

Yeah, I've the same problem with prog of the 80's. Still, it's a great "modern" prog album for the time. It's one of the best, or even the best, prog thing made in those days.

I agree with you, it's better than everything after Discipline. About my top 3 I'm not so sure. My 2 favourites are In The Court and Red, but the 3rd one it depends of the moments. I hesitate between Lizard, Larks and Discipline.
Thanks for the comment.

Islands (the closer) has a sort of lullaby charm to it in a weird way - the way it sounds is so soothing and comforting. And that is not a thing that KC does often imo

A lot of 80ies music has aged badly imo in terms of sound/production. Red sounds more modern than anything they did in the 80ies

It's true. The music of KC is timeless.

I wouldn't say that is the case for the two other 80ies records (aside from Discipline).
But this is more my vibe anyway

I prefer this over discipline...aesthetically mainly!
Don't care much about prelude and T/track tbh...the rest of the album, even though a bit on improvisation mode, its often brilliant and disturbing in the best way possible (something I adore on Red f.e.).

"a true island in all King Crimson’s discography"
Interesting metaphor! Lovely Rev indeed. Now its time to validate that with an intense discog run.

Underrated album. Great, very special atmosphere on this one. That's possibly the reason why I revisit it way more often than for example Starless or Lark's tongues...

@e210013: 'I agree with you. "Earthbound" is the lowest point of KC. And that is the opinion of Fripp, too.'
Overall the sound takes too much quality away from it, but damn... was there EVER a better version of 21st century?? That version even benefits from the sound IMO...

I agree Don. Me too. I also revisit this album more often than those albums. It has a strange nostalgic effect on me.

@ Don
I can agree with you. But the sound is simply awful. The fact that the recordings were captured live on an ampex stereo cassette recorder in the rain and from the back of a Volkswagen truck, says it all. Besides, it wasn't a coincidence that this was the last album chosen by Fripp to be remastered.
Sorry to answer only now, but this was the moment that I saw your comment.

Is there any one performance, where they played 21st Century Schizoid Man in full speed with all essential instruments? I have yet to hear one. The slow tempo kind of takes a lot of the enjoyment out of it
