@pots that's a fair point. Earl wasn't the first to do this by any means but he brought it to a slightly broader audience and linked back to the innovators who started the style e.g. Standing on the Corner and MIKE which is a good way to do it. I also just think the chemistry between these lo-fi, simple instrumentals and Earl's incredible lyrical talent is strong enough to justify the experiment

interesting... you name "MTOMB" a throwaway... I found it to be a favorite moment at first glance. Same with Some Rap Songs; "Loosie" is one of my favorites on there even though it's the shortest track at 59 seconds

@row Yeah it suits him well and I loved IDLSIDGO, I think its probably relevant to point out that the style has been losing my interest across the board, not just with him. I'm just ready for the next artist to push this style into new territory and do something that can keep my attention better

IDLS was such a good fusion of the more bombastic lyrical Earl with this new style that I kind of wish we could have had a few more releases with him in between the two eras, even though I understand that goes against the point. thank god we got Solace (maybe his best song) at least

4N actually grew on me. Only listen to it when you're smoked out.

Terribly interesting writeup, as it’s now making me more inclined to revisit this album. I must admit, his flow and style threw me off hard, as it’s something I’m not used to hearing, but I still feel fairly confident in my rating of this. I always appreciate rappers who ply their craft through alternative methods and means as opposed to what you hear everyone do on the radio.

if you're into music, I would imagine you're gonna have a tough time finding much of anything to appreciate on the radio

This is a short and sweet album by Earl. I prefer it to Tyler's latest.

It's a bit on the weak end, especially compared to SRS
