A strongly envy people with the time to listen to an entire Swans album in one sitting x2

I get by with a little more dynamism from my friends.

What is this? is a phenomenal track on by far the weakest swans album ive listened to in a while : (
|

swans is one of those bands that absolutely rule but I'm pretty easily turned off by
probs gonna skip this if most people are saying it's boring

I dig this but the next album better have a saxophone player

Album's in desperate need of a jaw harp and a washboard player.

Album is in desperate need of actual music

A lot of people here showing a surprising lack of appreciation for a very crucial part of swans aesthetic and sound. Interesting.

Way I see it, it's more about this being the 4th (or 5th if you want to count My Father) album of "sweeping, long-form" Swans. People were gonna tire of that formula eventually and going more drone/folk definitely doesn't help that.
Wish the folk was a bit more "freak-y." Some more energy would've done this thing some good.

If this was a student band up on stage doing their end of year ‘piece’ I guarantee within 45seconds 60% of the auditorium would be giving it the wanker sign.

Remaining 40% are the real ones.
That Gira, what a crooner.
(seriously though, guy's monotone doesn't help make this any more dynamic)

lol
And lol.

I mean it is sputnikmusic and this is by far the most negative reaction ive seen this album getting so it makes sense. it's also funny that the biggest criticism seems to be that its just another swans record when this is the least gira-centric record in decades.

I gave my props to the vibraphone player. Probably the most recognition anyone's given a vibraphone player in the history of music criticism.
As far as being "less gira-centric", I sort of agree. But only on some of the tracks. Cathedrals of Heaven has him dead-center mixed louder than everything else.

well i mean literally some of these songs were constructed by other bands as opposed to gira is what i meant. obviously all still within the framework and sonic boudnaries of Swans but like, the players on this record are much more a part of its construction than ever before and personally i dont know if people are just kinda tuning out at times because it certainly has a different feel to many of the songs. not really at your review, just thoughts coming to my head reading some of the reactions to it in the comments lol

Just listen 10 times. Then it will be a 5. Trust me.

I had some of the same thoughts as Sandwich.
His loudly mixed monotone voice is a detriment in a lot of places. If that were changed and 2-3 of the worst tracks were cut this would probably be just as good as The Glowing Man.

I mean, yes, but also this time there are no interesting ideas.

This does have ideas, Gira just doesn't expand on them in any way
