Dookie came out in middle school and I liked it a decent amount but was more into NIN, Soundgarden, Tool and Alice In Chains.
American Idiot is the only GD album I come back to.

Agreed, and Homecoming continues to be lowkey one of the best songs Green Day ever did. Aside from the mid-section this album held up really bloody well.

Yeah here's what I consider the "midsection":
5. Are We The Waiting
6. St. Jimmy
7. Give Me Novacaine
8. She's A Rebel
9. Extraordinary Girl
Obviously none of these are 5/5 tracks (some may argue that St. Jimmy is), but none of them are bad either. No problem with saying the midsection is the weakest part of the album, but I'd go against anyone saying the material is poor.

Tbh I like all those a lot apart from 8 and 9. I have my brother to thank for my distaste towards She's A Rebel cos he must've played that song nearly on repeat for weeks and that kinda exposure ruins a track. 9's perfectly alright but it's just a bit watery compared to the rest of it.
