shepherd in a sheepskin POS
I suppose I'll listen, if you so insist.

stuffing your album with tracks for the streaming revenue only works if the songs are actually interesting

About three quarters through and I get it. A part of me really loves what he's going for. Reminds me of early Lambchop in a way, with those delicate but deep vocals singing no real recognizable melody. I just wish there was some atmosphere to it or that the instrumentation was a little more interesting and carried more of a presence. There are moments but they're few and far between. What I'm trying to say is that I think there's too much vocal rambling. If he allowed the music to speak for itself a little more I could see me bumping this to a 4.
A beautiful sounding album, just not all that interesting musically, so I agree with the criticisms others have said here.

BUT, I also want to keep listening and exploring this thing. There's a lot here that a few cursory listens won't reveal. There's a real charm to it that wins you over when you reach the end of its long road.
EDIT: finished it. There's something to this, definitely. A 3.5 for now.

I could make a playlist of my favourite 10 songs on the album but it would be an inferior listen to the final product - it works better with all the call backs to previous songs, etc

lucman - keep persevering, it becomes a much easier listen over time, and it is only an hour long, loads of albums are over 50 minutes long tbh.

I am not a fan of vocal-driven albums. No matter how good the lyrics or the voice melodies, I'll never be able to properly get into stuff like this.

This is a really good review. Made me relisten and re-evaluate. I gotta give Bill props, it's hard to write about contentment.

This one takes a while fogza, glad it grew on you a bit.
Well, the album says reaching that point of contentment and then asking 'what comes next?' brings its own share of stormy clouds
The lyrics are brighter than his usual, but definitely still aren't all bunnies and kittens

This is actually the new release I’ve rated highest the five years I’ve been on Sput, sneaks just ahead of Garden of Delete

There might be a bit too much of this to swallow in one go but in bits and pieces, it can be magical. Bumped to a 4.
