Last four:
I'll Come [4/5] it's a ballad but honestly the trad ballads are alright on this thing, some slightly 'eh' vocals, but I'm saying they land just the right side of charming. Just.
Power On [2/5] this threatens to be a sort of Benjamin Clmentine bit of cool weirdness...but it fails, last minute and a half are awful
Don't Miss it [3.5/5] slightly boring but nice ballad
Lullaby [4/5] prettier still ballad...possibly the best tune! bugger that's not a good thing to realise

So tracks 8, 9, 11, 12 would have made a passable and unified 'Blake goes blue eyed soul' EP
The rest is all bin-worthy, give or take

I was so excited about this.
Sad to confirm that this is his least consistent LP. The back half of the album is definitely better than the front. So many of the tracks just lack any kind of impact. 'Where's the Catch?' is my favorite track of the bunch.
Also: I'm of the opinion that his debut gets too much praise. I feel like Overgrown is his best and Colour is his most underrated effort.

Dude took the concept of negative space to its logical extreme and removed anything interesting from his music

It's James Blake, so you can assume garbage

this kind of thing just isnt really in sputniks wheelhouse so its more prone to groupthink when nobody knows what to make of it
|
| |
this reaction was determined long before the album, or virtually any of the songs, were out

yeah that's pretty spot on
the first review posted also has a pretty massive influence, especially with popular releases like this (not commenting on the quality of the review, since this one is pretty well-written).

thats not to say that the underlying individual sentiments aren't genuine
just that hyperbole was all but guaranteed
