We must share a few others no? Advance Base? Harmony Rockets? Anna Von Hausswolff? Low? Tropical Fuck Storm? Matt Maltese?
And I think this may grow on me yet, albeit slowly.

"Bested Bones" is an excellent opener, think I might wait to hear the rest until I can get my hands on a CD copy though. A bit bummed the full album isn't up on Bandcamp

Damn. I listened to this back to back with The Opiates last night and that still seems so so much better, that’s on the verge of a 4.5 for me now whereas this is a light to mid 3.5, and only because it’s so pretty - I don’t particularly love any individual track here.

Doof rec'd that to me but I'm tempted to avoid if it might diminish this in my eyes. Sometime next year.

The lyrics throw it over the top for me, Boney, not the individual songs. I listen to it as one large interconnected piece of music. The lyrical theme and the journey through sadness, depression, loneliness, despair, and then finally overcoming all that with hope and renewal at the end. I think it's a great piece of music altogether.

I definitely agree it’s hard to look at individual tracks outside of the context of the album as a whole.
I don’t think an individual song will make my top 10 songs of the year - the album will certainly make my top 10 albums of the year.

The lyrics are actually what hold this back I think, nothing terribly interesting in them and the emotion feels a bit put-on. :-/
Idk, I’ve spun this 8 times now so it’s probably opened up for me as much as it’s going to.

the aesthetic is exquisite so idc that the emotion is put-on. most chamber pop comes across like that to me

Feiner is definitely a bit of a ham but I like that, this isn’t one I cry to (he is sometimes overblown and/or cheesy) but there’s just this perfect craftsmanship feel. I also love that this sounds ‘out of time’ - this has nothing to do with anything in 2018 music, pure circumstance It came out now.
It’s a lovely miniature world cast in amber and dropped to the bottom of its own lonely fish tank

That’s all fair, this achieves the aesthetic it’s going for about as well as it can.

The lyrics interest me greatly... but lyrics about a man that has lived life and trying to decide if it's all been worth it, and where to go next, are probably more my speed than yours ;-) plus what Luci said, all chamber pop comes across a little artsy-fartsy.
...and yeah, what Doof said too.

Eh, I’d say that the artsy-fartsiness of this is characteristic more of its ambient pop than its chamber pop influences, lots of “true” chamber pop (i.e. the indie pop kind) is pretty bright and more conventionally fun or saccharine in a self-aware rather than a self-serious way.
