saw 'em live last sunday, fucking transcendent. they're not as loud as they apparently used to be so i got to leave with my hearing intact, even! picked up one of the tour-exclusive Akumas on vinyl as well as a couple of stickers & Crossing Waltz on CD for a friend.

as for this album, still probably my favorite Boris but i have so much more to listen to

Quite possibly Boris's definitive record. Everything they represent packaged into one hell of an album. Unlike most Boris this one is the easiest to "grasp" too.

I agree with the first half of your statement, but surely, Noise is more accessible?

Imo it is not. Noise is more on the experimental spectrum of their style, although, it's definitely more accessible than let's say, Pink or Smile.

Smile I never enjoyed that much. Pink is awesome. Noise always felt poppy to me (yes, I know it has that ridiculously long song on it)

I happen to love that long song XD. I think it was my favorite from that album.

I love the whole album. Definitely one of their best non-classic releases.

did they rip off Nick Drake? Bryter Layter anyone?

Not a rip off, but clearly an homage.

"Cover art. While the original minimalist album cover has been part of Boris' website for an extensive period of time, its US cover version is a direct tribute to the cover of Nick Drake's album Bryter Layter. ... Southern Lord Records released a vinyl pressing that had a third cover, in tribute to the band Venom."

Interesting. I was just messing around but that's cool they tipped their hat to Nick. The similarity struck me immediately.

Boris on the whole is a metal band and I think this can fall into stoner/sludge pretty easily. Very punky album tho
