"it feels like they abandoned everything that made Chemical Miracle so great"
honestly I feel like the differences between those albums are a bit exaggerated. CM is more aggressive sure but it still feels like the same band at heart

It was good enough i bought the physical copy but for me it got old after less than a week except for three songs.

I think for this record they lean heavily on a lot of pop tropes, like the gang choruses, chants, orchestral backing, etc. I still very much dig this record, to me it just sounds like mainstream rock putting an impression on the band instead of Trophy Eyes doing something new and leaving a mark on mainstream rock.

Aka selling out

Essentially, but I don't blame them, if that's artistically where they want to go and if they really want to reach more people.

Man "Friday Forever" is a jam but the rest of this is just gang vocal country. Way too overbearing.

I love gang vocals but they fucking overdid them on this album.

"but it still feels like the same band at heart"
It does. It feels like the band members wanted to be more 'mature and commercially accessible'. It feels like the same band, but without any of the raw emotion or interesting and proficient instrumentals. It feels like Trophy Eyes wanted to distance themselves from writing sad songs, so they figured their only option was a somewhat generic radio rock release. The only reason that the album isn't way worse is because of the raw skill that Trophy Eyes has.

"The only reason that the album isn't way worse is because of the raw skill that Trophy Eyes has."
translation: They got more accessible, sure, but are skilled enough to execute a poppier sound pretty darn well. I get it that Sputnik loves jumping on the "doesn't scream anymore, is bad" train (I've been there before, holla Pianos Become the Teeth), but guys, being a catchy rock band isn't bad.

@project, it has nothing to do with disliking accessible sounds or not screaming anymore. I simply see much less heart and thought put into this album than either of the previous two releases. Some elements just feel lazy or already beaten to death.

The catchy rock they're making is boring and forgettable or laughably bad (the singles)

honestly album would be considerably better if the chorus of EVERY SONG wasn't just excessive octave gang vocals
this isn't even a style they do horribly that often just
chill with the gang vox jesus christ

this is gonna sound weird but does anyone else hear gang of youths in the lower vox?

I'm definitely getting a few Gang of Youth Vibes too.
I'm not digging the few shorter quiet tracks on the album, they don't really help it flow and are pretty skip-able after listening to them once.
It feels like they were rushed to put out this album, considering CM was only released in 2016 and they toured very heavily after it. I don't think as much time was spent on the writing or song production.

I love the singer but he straight up apes Gang of Youths hard in the verses for the closer
