okay so @ winezborg: i know very little about kanye, relatively, but actually it seems this is the most kanye album to ever kanye and the effect is compelling. it's most definitely a tangled mess of pretty sounds and ugly sentiments. i think his self-aware shtick wears thin super quickly though, and he seems to try and replicate the i-don't-give-a-fuck vibes of Lift Yourself (yes, seriously) here to no avail. i've always wondered whether kanye is playing a character for the public eye but idk here it seems like he's just taking his most abnormal qualities and foisting them under the magnifying glass (track 1: homicidal tendencies, track 2: trivializing important social movements with false equivalencies = narcissism?). at the very least i reckon Ye might prove that kanye isn't ""crazy""; he knows exactly what he's doing, he's just lashing out against a plethora of criticisms the most efficacious way he knows how, and coincidentally it makes for a weirdly accurate portrayal of his mental illness ("ain't no disability, i'm a SUPERHERO"). ANYWAY i still don't like him much but now i'm convinced he's a genuinely incredible producer, so there's that.
