Nice review, man. Doesn't sound like my thing, but this was really informative. Might give it a go. In the future, you may want to provide a bit more analysis outside of context and description -- sorta like a more wholistic approach to the album within the meat of the review rather than just the intro and conclusion. But also, that's neither here nor there, particularly because this is very well-written.

it's certainly less monolithic than ima imo so it should be a fairly easy listen (then again i do believe the 1996 version of ima thats like 2+hrs long is the definitive one since it has sasha's voyage of ima on there)

i'd love to hear more indepth c&c blush if u could provide

Of course. You mention how progressive and innovative BT is within the scene, but I never quite get a feel for that; I'm still unsure of what makes a "progressive trance banger", or what separates Transeau from the crowd, in particular with this album. (Or how he's made his sound more accessible.) I am a tad apprehensive about pointing something like this out, though, just because it's implicit that the audience of the review should know this. But also the way you position yourself in the introduction (introducing the artist despite him not needing introduction) suggests you also mean to speak to the layperson (i.e. me). I feel like perhaps you could've widened your scope a little, therefore, to explain some things about the album in a more general sense (more comparison to Ima and other releases within the genre) while also diving a bit deeper into landmark tracks. You jump between a lot of the album's songs and have some really nice descriptions, but it might have been more beneficial to have chosen a smaller number of tracks to speak about, and focus a bit more on positioning them within the context of the album, as well as being careful to describe what exactly makes them so special.

I hope that makes sense. It is a vague critism -- really it's about balancing levels of generality: getting better at both widening and narrowing the scope to include what's most necessary to your argument. Again, this is a great review regardless. (:

ahhhhhhhhh i understand what you mean and yeah to your specific example the adjective "progressive" has a bit of a different meaning when attached to an electronic subgenre (lke trance or house); i don't know how best to explain it, but i'd point out (from extensive experience with both sides of the comparison) that a progressive trance tune is not quite as compositionally sophisticated as a prog rock or prog metal song, but it's definitely more compositionally sophisticated than a generic club dance floor track. electronic subgenres and subsubgenres are just one massive clusterfuck honestly, but progressive in this context generally means "hey its not just repetitive shit that sounds the same for almost the entire duration"

as for the target audience, i guess it would be the somewhat-savvy internet folks who probably have heard of ima and might even like it, but dont know much more about BT or the fact that he's made other awesome stuff too

yeah i actually felt that way myself while writing but i couldnt think of a better way to do it. i mean play-by-playing this kind of music would just sound weird to me. that and again i maybe did assume a bit of familiarity with the much more known/beloved/circlejerked ima

Gonna check this, the next album, and the previous album out for sure. Been missing some 90s dance/trance in my life for a while now. Used to hear tracks from this guy all the time years ago.
