Is this better than their last record though? Hope it's more visceral too.

'but the genre hopping got pretty homogenous'
Surely it's the opposite of homogenous, there's a huge amount of variety in the band's sound & it's constantly changing.

Eh it felt forced idk how to explain it.
Like after a while I could sorta see where the transitions were coming from before I even heard them.

Messy genre-hopping can lead to indistinguishable tracks, like a load of mush. New one is very coherent though, that's why it works.

Will check regardless cos there was still a couple of bangers on the album I checked.
They're playing 30 minutes from me with Palm Reader in April, £8 a ticket so think I'll go.

Genre-hoping as a general rule makes everything seem distinctive to me, unless it's so haphazard & constant that there are several abrupt changes per track, then it becomes tiresome. This strikes a nice balance.

Playing in Leeds as well, seems to be some sort of all-day event though. I did wonder why it was £21.

Slam Dunk fest maybe?

Nah man, it's a load of (presumably) local bands at a social club, I know the place & they often put on these sorts of events. I'd have preferred it to just be an £8 gig though, honestly. If I'm somewhere like this all day I'd like an accomplice & can't see me persuading anyone.

I’m heading up to Leeds next month to watch footy and go on the piss. I want proper boozers not student wank. Any advice?

The centre of Leeds is dominated by places that you'd most likely consider 'student wank' just with heftier prices...
One exception I can think of off the top of my head is a pub called Whitelocks, I'd class that as a 'proper boozer' & it's perfectly safe. That's very central. The Pack Horse as well actually, they're pretty much right next to each other on one of the main shopping streets.

‘The Pack Horse’ sounds proper. Nice one mate

Lucid 4 but Doof 4.5, I can’t get a read on this.

it's another cross-over fave like A.A.L., that seems to be the draw of early 2018 ;)
it has prominent screamo sections though so i don't think you'll stomach it boney

I dunno, if Doof finds this one special then it could be your thing as well

Doof will encourage me to check it because he wants me to have more 1s and 1.5s, if I’m feeling masochistic I’ll try it.

Boney - think you maybe won't enjoy all of this but will like/respect passages of it

Prediction: Boney will give this a 3.0.

Nah 3.0 is too neutral, either I’ll somehow love it and it’ll get a 4+ or I’ll dislike/hate it and it’ll get a 2 or below.

This is definitely going to be very unpalatable to some but fuck it bone give it a go. There is a bit of Loveless going on in the background there somewhere so you may just dig.
