Good review man. As far as Marvel soundtracks go this was one of the better ones to hear during the film but they felt badly misapplied and didn't gel very well with the actual movie. I think that's more on the sound designers' heads than Kendrick and co. though, the actual tracks sounded pretty decent.

I thought the individual songs on this were better than the ones on damn tbqh

The entire film really has nothing to do with Africa outside of design, it's all a metaphor for American anyway

I didn't hear much of an African influence on most of these songs, and Kendrick certainly isn't fully engaged on here, but most of the other guests come correct, and the beats are still good.
It's not amazing, but taken on its own, its a perfectly good hip hop/R&B compilation album at the least.

I was hopeful for this soundtrack from the vibe of the trailer. I should know better.

This was pretty lame agreed

It's almost like Kendrick was trying to make up for having only like one rap feature on tpab/uu/damn combined with this

Some decent tunes. But it's very, very watered down and boring overall.
Also, the fact that "Black Panther" is at the forefront of political/cultural discourse of the US right now is just so sad. It's a by the numbers Marvel action movie that is just fine. It also happens to have a very obvious, pandering message.
We have had actually important (and more importantly good) "black movies" like 12 Years A Slave or Moonlight in the theaters within the last few years and they didn't spark nearly as much of a reaction.

Lol, because that train of thought is so original. (Especially if your favorite movies of 2015 and 2017 are 12 Years a slave and Moonlight respectively)
