the biggest difference between the two IMO is James' vocals.

The guitars on RTL are great and the songs are much more entertaining. Stuff like Disposable Heroes just drags imo.

I know it's some people's favourite, but I just never got that. It feels unfocuses to me and just half a minute or one minute too long. The Thing That Should not be drags the most here though.

Sorry Soccer, RTL sound is so mucky and analog. Nothing wrong with the guitar textures, it’s the overall presentation.

That's fine if you feel that way. I absolutely hate Tomb of the Mutilated's production and I know I get a lot of flak for that one, so it's different strokes for different folks with each album

Don't hear much Meshuggah in The Thing That Should Not Be tbh but it is amazing. One of Metallica's best and most underrated songs.

I mean, I was bound to mirror other people's points in a review that happens to come after several pages of other writeups, so it's all coincidence ¯_(ツ)_/¯
