@NorthernSkylark, woah, I assumed you'd already know the Tom Petty discography inside and out...

This album is definitely Petty at his most overt pop rock, it's pretty damn great but I can see some preferring his more subtle stuff (like Wildflowers)

Yes I would like more like that can you rec me an heartbreaker album in that vein or just like different than this. I’m listening to John Moreland today, you should check him out sunny! In the throes is prob my fave of his but they’re all pretty sweet…

John Moreland has been on my radar for a while, will have to check!

As far as Tom Petty goes, you won't really find any other albums of his that quite match the folk singer-songwriter vibe of Wildflowers all the way through. Since you like that, I might actually recommend Highway Companion, it's a late era solo album and definitely more uneven in terms of quality, but stylistically some of the tracklist is similar and there are some wonderful tunes.

In addition, I'd have to recommend Damn The Torpedoes, definitely the best record with the Heartbreakers, even though it's more a gritty rock sound. You'll almost certainly love the closer, great country rock sound there.

I think it's insane that the guy responsible for making GTA's radio stations has a better music taste than 99.9% of sputnikmusic and rateyourmusic users.

This is a great album, takes me back to being 19 again and lots of happy memories. This, the Traveling Wilburys vol 1 and Roy Orbisons Mystery Girl, which all came out in the same period and were all produced by Jeff Lynne are all classics IMO. Oh to be able to go back to 1989…..
