again, he was essentially the producer
seriously not doing Tom that good with the "with" bit honestly lol

It's a smart business move though, will sell orders of magnitude more than it would have otherwise, but it sure is a hell of a disservice to Tom artistically - if not bolstering his exposure and recognition

absolutely
I was unsure about this at first because with how many collaborations Eno has done, I wasn't exactly sure if this was going to be wallpaper ambient stuff or stuff like his albums with Karl Hyde from a few years ago
Dead Oceans has been promoting this quite a bit, so this ought to be a success for Tom nonetheless

I have no doubt whatsoever this’ll sell about 532 copies.
Unfortunately

It's just a matter of opinion how much or little Eno had to do with this, you guys act like you were in the studio with them lol
I hear a lot of Eno's influences and style in this. However much or little he wrote, he definitely had a big part to play in how it turned out.

I'v seen Tom's improv show about 5 times now. The same sort of thing that was - reading the story behind the album - the basis for most of this.
It's very similar. Yes I'm assuming but there aren't many degrees of separation between how this album came out and the stuff I've got used to hearing from Tom

do i need emphasize the press release's emphasis that this is a Tom Rogerson album first and foremost? This is as much of a Brian Eno record as "Heroes" is.

Sure, if anything that makes it more ambiguous. In any case it doesn't really matter, it's titled as a collab and that's what it is. It's just an excellent album.
Fripp: Yeah but iirc it also said Eno really influenced Tom and pushed him to try new things and new techniques, so he was significantly responsible for how good much of this is.

Pretty much
Aside from increased publicity, the "With" addition probably has to do with the fact Rogerson gives him a lot of credit in putting his improvisations together, so aside from producing the album, Eno's role in this was probably helping Tom arrange the stuff, like John Cale did for Nico on The Marble Index.

Heard this recently and loved it. Finding the bulk of my favourite music in the recent influx of best-of lists

I edited my comment to respond Fripp but that sounds right. I'm just happy they met each other and this happened.

Fair enough, although the influx of Eno-related comments isn't exactly fair to the person who actually played and composed most of the music on this record.

Eno definitely deserves 90% of the credit

Shows the whole 'with Eno' decision on the accreditation issue is having the desired effect if nothing else positive though!

Ought to add Tom's solo stuff to the site though

I listened to this more today, and it's nearly in my top 10 favorite albums of the year. Each time I've jammed, the presence of Eno's tropes from his classic ambient albums and collabs from the 70s and early 80s reveal themselves. It's so cool to hear a new album involving him that embodies that kind of spirit while still being its own thing.

Eno rocks every track
Tom is a decent sidekick
