Yeah I am gonna pass on this one.

Get Right is so, so terrible. Listen to Jimmy Eat World's Get Right instead.

Hurley was average. and was a huge step in the right direction, especially compared to the shitheap that was raditude.
I don't get most people's complaints with this tbh. This is really top notch pop rock that actually pushes Weezer's sound a little bit. Basically, if you like weezer, you should like this. If you're expecting groundbreaking emo, look elsewhere

pop "rock"? Have you heard Feels Like Summer, Happy Hour, Get Right or La Mancha Screwjob? Half of this album has no right being associated with rock in any way. It's chasing trends.
The other half is pretty good and at times great.

This is just a chill album you play when you want to kick back on the grass and slow down a little. Not a masterpiece by any means nor close to their best but I'm a sucker for these kinds of fun records.

Album is solid. Not as good as the White Album, but nowhere near the disaster many were expecting.
All in all, it's a good time. The back half has some jams.

yeah you have a point, they're not really rock. Still great.

I liked the La Mancha chorus but the verses were a little off

I don't really mind the tracks that lack a rock edge. Even "Feels Like Summer" is passable, at the very least.

Yeah Feels like summer is the only dud, but that's from a production standpoint. The acoustic version is awesome, has a campfire vibe to it.

As a regular pop album with its own merits and disassociated from Weezer's name, this is just awful. Just as bad as anything you'll hear on the radio these days.

Weekend Woman through to Sweet Mary is a pretty lovely run.

yeah, but you also gave Pinkerton a 2. I'd take this over Lorde or Taylor any day of the week.

Fuck it, I've listened to this through a few times, I switched out FLS for the acoustic version, this is a 4. Bumped my rating.

idk, i feel like a lot of the songs on this record fall flat as pop tunes. melodies aren't as catchy as they can be and as a whole a lot of songs feel a bit lacking in general songwriting stuff. feels like summer is actually a track I really like.

for a second ever review I think you did a nice job here man. it could use some editing and maybe trimming for sure, but a lot of your thoughts are great and with how simplistic this album appears, you've really gone deep with the analysis (deeper than I did for sure, lel)
"The bridge is the ultimate payoff, though, as it actually harkens back to those great bridges of the Blue Album that felt on the verge of abstract chaos, with ascending guitar and vocal straining before a full-on rock out." this especially is a great line and I totally agree

Thanks Rowan. I overcooked most of my adjectives, and my first paragraphs were mostly gibberish now that I look at them, but I think this was a decent effort for me and I am particularly happy with the second and third last paragraphs. Your review is way better though

Also, those who point out about the release dates, the album came out this morning where I live, and I obviously listened to it before posting this review. But yeah, I have to admit I did form this review in my head based on the singles, and if the band hadn't released so many singles for this one this review might be different. The thing is, I posted my first review a couple of days after the album was released, so the interest had shifted, and I wanted to be early on this one. I want to know how I can get an album before it is released because it seems like everyone else can.
