I think you might have been shooting for "proximate" rather than "proximal". Really good review

What a fall from grace. By that I mean from a 2.5 to 2.0.

I like most of the first half of the album, particularly "Pills", "Los Ageless" (except for the ending), and "MASSEDUCTION". However, the album sort of trails off after "New York" and didn't really hold my attention.

Slow Disco is one of the best moments on the whole album though :-(

This is probably the most disappointed I've been in a release in a long while. Other than the singles, there's nothing here to suggest that this album is nothing more than a collection of decent yet muddled electropop songs. Hope her next release plays more to her strengths.

@oahmed check the new Beck album, it's infinitely more disappointing

@Sandwich I'll give that a spin. I'm expecting a wildly inconsistent listen given the hit and miss singles.

I think this album is better than her past stuff, personally. I dig it more anyway.

She's channeling her inner Madonna and Alanis Morrissette on this one.

with the singles i had the problem that they sound like they were written and structured as catchy pop songs but lacked that integral catchiness and cohesiveness. the rest of the album more than makes up for them though, and 'hang on me', the title track and 'young lover' are huge highlights. this probably ends up as my 2nd fave st vincent after her last self titled album.
