Pretensious is quite a stretch. Hell I would even really call this THAT proggy. If anything it reminds me of Messengers with more dynamics.

That being said I do understand your point.

What do you find pretentious about it? The only thing I've ever found remotely pretentious about ABR is their experimentation with different styles that they began on Leveller and have continued ever since. The use of those elements on this album is the cleanest it's ever been.

This whole album just feels proggy for the sake of being held on a pedestal. Like oh boy, you went even further down the proggy road so all of the dudes who know nothing about music will praise you

Why did most of these songs have to be longer than 5 minutes for example? This album is far too long, and if they trimmed the fat off of some songs then they'd be a lot better and less boring. Brevity is underappreciated on this album

You're making it sound like this album is Dream Theatre or something. I feel like you're only saying that because the album is a bit longer than usual, that feels like a really weak criticism to me. It's really not as proggy as you're making it out.

"so all of the dudes who know nothing about music will praise you "
I really do not think that is the reasoning. They've been slowly going down this road for a while. It feels a natural/logical progression imo. Also going past 5 minutes for a song isn't really much although it's a bit long for metalcore.

Not trying to sound like an offended fanboy btw, i'm just genuinely interested in this.

I'm always a proponent of shorter albums, but this generation has an especially short attention span. It just feels ridiculous to me sometimes. If you're complaining about the length of songs, that tells me you're inherently not enjoying the music. I don't think the songs on this are overlong, a few go into the 5-6 minute mark but it's not arbitrary.

It feels a lot longer than it is tbh, there's a lot of parts on this album that feel like nothing's happening
R&R was a lot more concise, and every part in every song felt as though it was meant to be there, rather than just tacking on another section

I have no problem with longer songs, it just that the longer songs on here have no reason being that long

That's fair, I guess it really boils down to whether or not you like the extra sections. Honestly I have way too much with this whole album so the extra length doesn't bother me at all.

I love R&R too but I just don't feel like anything here is tacked on. There's like 2 or 3 songs that I would have cut entirely from this to make it shorter and better but it still slays. I never feel like my time is being wasted listening to this.

Fair enough. I just feel myself snoozing whenever they come on, but if you dig them then more power to you my friend

Trebor, if you feel the discussion is below your lofty intellect, perhaps you could conjure some words of wisdom or contribute something of value. Or just continue to sit back and scoff at our aimless exchange, with the occasional snarky comment. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
