Eh I've never been one to dictate what I listen to based on surrounding/season/etc, but I def feel you. Some albums just sound better in a certain setting.

You're in the perfect spot for bm!!

I know the point you're making, but it still rubs me the wrong way the way you compared this at several points to Deathspell Omega. It's not necessarily the comparison itself (which is stylistically valid), it's more the way it seemed to suggest that this album's style is in some way indebted to Deathspell Omega, which seems wrong given that Blut aus Nord pioneered this style of dissonant black metal on The Work Which Transforms God a full year before DsO released Circumspice. You've put the cart before the horse.

Finally Xeno, you got a metal album rating right!
Jokes aside, review is a good read. Agree on all points.

"in a lot of ways calls back to the band's brief love affair of industrial metal"
Brief? From 'The Work' onwards, they have been hugely indebted to bands like Godflesh and the industrial aesthetic in general. In terms of the genre hopping, the reason why BAN are able to pull this off so successfully is because Vindsval is a once in a generation type of guitarist and a brilliant lead player (I don't even like trad BM, but the Memoria Vetustas are extremely listenable). For anyone dismissing the 777 trilogy, I implore you to revisit them, because there's some absolute gems in there and in my view, it's his most cohesive work. For such a keen collaborator, it's just a shame he's never worked with DsO yet, given their locality and outlook.

I've revisited several times bro, they do absolutely nothing for me.

Fair enough! Lots of melodic shoegaze influences on those albums, too, which I love.

@MayhemWithMercy
I totally get you on the weather/seasons thing, I can't help it but it makes a big difference in what I can listen to.

For sure man.
To me this just sounds 777 without all of the melodic mesmerizing spacey moments. Only listened once through so far though.
