Wank implies shallow technicality, where musical passages are devoid of purpose except for showcasing the ability of the player.



It's pretty clear the songs are structured with intent and not just "lol guys look how hard I fucking jack off on this part"



In fact I'd argue this has less technicality present than ALLB and Hail the Sun both



I'm annoyed because people are making some wacky assumptions that make no real sense. By the end of the day of course people won't like that, it's clear to see, but I'm gonna argue against stuff that doesn't add up to me.

Idk to me anything with unnecessary technicality just sounds wanky. It's an aesthetic thing, a matter of genre, I guess - some people like rhythmically/structurally complex stuff, some people don't. Personally I find it unappealing.

Sach I don't care enough to be edgy/I understand that everyone has different tastes so I make mine known and then usually bow out before things get too heated. Personally I think fighting with people over clearly irreconcilable differences is a waste of my time but it's fun to watch others go at it.

I don't think any musicians care about my opinion, lol. They can do whatever they want but I don't have to like or appreciate what they're doing.

And to answer your question, though I'm pretty sure it was rhetorical, technicality becomes unnecessary when it gets in the way of emotion - and for me, technicality is pretty much emotionless by definition, so for me, virtually all technicality is unnecessary. But again it's just a matter of personal taste.
