it's really nothing special. Super melodramatic and the songwriting is incredibly disjointed

lol what do you even mean by that tho? It's not some new sound.. just some wanky emo-tinged post-hardcore with extra dramatic vocals.. that hasn't been done before?

it's a rollercoaster of an album with tinges of math rock, metalcore, early 00s poppy post-hardcore, post-rock and ctts-esque emo, to my knowledge it hasn't been done before. yes, it is ridiculously melodramatic, the lyrics are often naive and everything is just all over the place and you can criticize it for that all day if you want but it's really hard to find anything that sounds even remotely the same as this

first off, everything's been done, dude. And furthermore, I feel like you're being way too liberal with your descriptions there. Like where's the post-rock, the last lost continent and that's it? Just cuz an album closes with a long epic crescendoing song doesn't mean the song is or is even influenced by post-rock. Sure bands can actually mix styles in a tangible way but in this case I think it's just so much of a hodgepodge that it's pointless to pick out every little part that vaguely sounds like this genre, that genre.. and then on top of that act like that equals innovation. In summation I don't think these guys are really blending styles at all I think they're just mediocre songwriters lol

this has post-rock influenced bits here and there not just on the last lost continent, like for example the bookends, fall down and last blues to name a few. from the genres i mentioned, the main style the album is built around is obviously post-hardcore but this takes a lot of influence from all those genres

"on top of that act like that equals innovation. In summation I don't think these guys are really blending styles at all"

you're right, making a hodgepodge of sounds from different genres doesn't equal innovation. they are certainly blending the styles though into something cohesive though, and it might be mostly loved by angsty teenagers/young adults but it's also something that was missing from the post-hardcore map at the time and managed to fulfill the hole. that's what i call innovation

I'll concede that this album definitely "filled a hole." Really don't see a genuine post-rock influence tho. It's beside the point really, but this claim seems based on a pretty superficial idea of post-rock. And idk, 'cohesive' is just not a word I'd use to describe this album at all. I mean at least they weren't just treading old ground I guess

I wouldn't go as far as to call this album cohesive. In fact I think it's a wild hodgepodge of emotions are spilt out, raw as can be. As for the vocalist, he is both amazing and fucking terrible. Like I love i but I could see why it irritates people.
