No where near Mother of Virtues. And that was one of the first albums in a long time to do something interesting with the style of Obscura.

Mother of Virtues just sounds like what they've pulled off here being in its infancy. They were throwing ideas into a heap and seeing what happened, this is far more fleshed out.

"They were throwing ideas into a heap and seeing what happened, this is far more fleshed out." I disagree and even if that was the case they already did everything that makes this band unique and interesting on Virtues.

I also thought this album moves away in style from Virtues. More of a cross between their Gorguts loving debut, atmosludge noise and virtues.

Oh sure, MoV was unique and innovative, this is just more focused. A fuller realisation of what they were going for 3 years ago. But I guess we're at an impasse because I hear less Gorguts in this than I did in MoV and I reckon they're finally finding their own niche, having dabbled for a while.
