It just sounds messy. Like the band put all their ideas in a hat and randomly arranged them into "songs".

yeah, there's little to no cohesion here. the hooks are good tho

Yeah the hooks are what this album has going for it. In spades. But you're right. Come to think of it, there's 100 melodies in here I love, and I can't tell you the title of a single song or where they lie.

To be fair, the singer/guitarist is from DGD, so the similarities do make sense. I don't like this anywhere near as much as Degeneraterra, but I'm a sucker for wanky post hardcore.

who now is from DGD?
|

He was a touring guitarist, he's not actually a part of DGD

I was talking with him after the DGD show in Boston, he actually wrote a good bit of the guitar parts on Mothership as well as being the touring guitarist.

He's been in DGD since 2015, so obviously he's more than just a touring musician. Just didn't record with them, because he was writing/recording with Eidola.
Loti is so goddamn great.

I really need to just put this one more because every time I listen to this I think it's easily one of this year's best.

If Querents and Primitive Economics were excluded, this would be much more cohesive. They definitely slow the start of this a bit cuz the songs preceding it set the bar really high. Amplissimus Machina (really, what are these song titles?) feels a little long for what it is (it's barely 4 minutes but it feels like 6...what) but it's still a good one. Other than that, no problems with this. Loti and on is such a great run of music

I've been listening again during my commutes for a couple days this week.
It's still as good as I remember -- when it's good. It does drag. And sometimes the song structures do drag it down. Fantastic melodies. Great singer, though I could do without a couple of the piercing falsettos, which just remind me of Tillian Pearson's high notes, and not in a great way.
I think there's both just enough here to bug me and to love that the scale evens. Frustratingly flawed, but they're undeniably very talented. I guess I'll just leave the 3.5.
I think I want to like it more than I do. Maybe I'm still biased from when they released a music video and I laughed, then cringed so fucking hard that it permanently affected how I perceive this band LOL

which music video Nomos???
I think most of the song structures are fine. they are definitely interesting, but it does sound like they are trying too hard.
I still really like this album though. they're dope live too

i don't think they're trying to hard, to me it seems like they're just overexcited

Loti and The Familiar are great tracks, but can agree with above critiques of lack of cohesion. Crazy to think that Andrew Wells has been a guest vocalist on two of the better DGD tracks in the past two albums.
Sorry for 2 year bump~
