Great review. Your perspective is interesting.
Another point of view would be; this is an underproduced album with mediocre melodies. The underproduction however is clearly intentional and befits the album as a whole. Maybe I need some more time with the album to appreciate the melodies. The "second, hours, days..etc" voiceover thing is a bit strange considering the sparse atmosphere of the rest of the album. I need to listen some more to come to a definitive judgement of this album.

for now I find the melodies not as memorable as on Metals, but I must admit that album took me a while too

I found it underproduced at first, as well (which I guess is why it has barely made a splash), but repeat listening reveals so many tiny, fun production choices and tinkering with the acoustics that I've changed my mind about that. Underneath the vocal noise and bare guitar melodies there's so much happening, sonically, that makes the album rich in character. One of my favorites this year, probably.

There may be a lot more going on here than meets the eye but it just didn't really interest me that much at the surface level. Had no issues with the production, but the songwriting didn't seem terribly strong to me. Perhaps I gave up on it too soon (I gave it a solid 4-5 listens I believe) but I really couldn't be bothered to listen to this in full again.

Oh yeah, I can definitely see some finding the songwriting pretty pedestrian. I think it adds charm, though, in its somewhat lightweight subject matter.

One of the top 10 records for this year. Such a good vibe such an innocent and amazing voice. Nice review man

Still one the more memorable 2017 albums for me.

Listened to it a couple days ago while driving solo through the northern Ontario countryside in pitch blackness...very cool experience.

her live shows are pretty great.. mind you, last time I saw her was in the mid 2000's.. but she went pretty wild with guitar..
